How to prepare your home for the decorator

A little prep on your side saves hours on mine, which usually saves you money too. Here's what I ask clients to do before I arrive.

Clear the walls and small stuff

Take down pictures, mirrors, curtains, curtain poles and shelving where you can. Empty shelves and mantelpieces. I'll move furniture and cover it, but the small stuff is quicker for you to shift than for me to box up.

    Flag anything unusual

Damp patches, cracks that come back, wallpaper you've already tried to strip, mention them all at the quote stage. I'd much rather know upfront than discover them halfway through.

Plan for the pets and kids

Fresh paint and cats don't mix. If you can keep pets and small children out of the working room for a day or two, everyone (including them) will be happier.
