When to repaint a new build (and why builder paint fails so fast)

If you've moved into a new build around Cringleford, Hethersett, Long Stratton or Thetford in the last year or two, you've probably noticed the walls mark from just about anything, a chair, a bag, a curious toddler.

Why builder paint marks so easily

Developers use very cheap contract emulsion designed to spray on quickly, not to last. It's chalky, absorbent and almost impossible to wipe clean, one damp cloth and you're left with a bigger mark than you started with.

    Wait, then do it properly

It's worth waiting 6-12 months after moving in for the plaster to settle and any snags to appear. Then a full repaint with a proper trade paint (a good scrubbable matt for walls, water-based satin on woodwork) transforms the house.

It looks sharper, wipes clean, and doesn't need doing again for years.
