    Floral wallpaper hallway, Norwich

    Norwich, NR2 4 days Large-scale botanical, paste-the-paper, non-woven backing
Floral wallpaper hung in a Norwich hallway with crisp pattern matching

    The brief

A three-storey Victorian terrace near the Golden Triangle with a long, narrow hallway. The owners wanted a bold botanical wallpaper but had been told the walls were too uneven to take it.

    How it was done

    • Stripped two layers of old woodchip and washed the walls back to bare plaster.
    • Made good the cracks, then cross-lined the entire hallway in 1400 grade lining paper so the finished paper sat flat.
    • Set the first drop off a plumb line at the most visible wall, then worked outwards so the pattern break landed behind the front door.
    • Trimmed by hand around the staircase string, dado and picture rail, and re-painted the woodwork in a soft eggshell to sit with the paper.

    The finish

Every stem lines up across the seams, including around the stairs. The hallway now reads as one continuous garden rather than a set of panels.
