The brief
A dated but structurally sound oak kitchen. Replacing it was quoted at several thousand pounds, so the owners asked what paint could do instead.
How it was done
- Removed all doors and hardware, degreased and sanded every face.
- Two coats of adhesion primer over the oak grain, denibbed between coats.
- Three thin coats of a hard-wearing satin applied with a brush and laying-off technique.
- Rehung with new brass hardware once fully cured.
The finish
A kitchen that looks new for a fraction of a replacement, with a finish tough enough for daily family use.
